Culinary Medicine Workshop Day 2022

Last week we had the pleasure of attending a workshop on the “Introduction to Nutritional Psychiatry” hosted by Culinary Medicine.

Culinary Medicine is a multi-professional team working across healthcare to try and promote sustainable and affordable food for all. They offer different courses which are designed for health and social care professionals, who have very little training in nutrition, to try and provide appropriate nutritional guidance to individuals battling a range of medical conditions. The courses provide both theoretical and practical based learning.

The workshop explored the links between diet, gut, mental and brain health. On the day we heard from Professor Felice Jacka, Director of the Food and Mood Centre and, Dr Tetyana Rocks, Accredited Dietitian and Head of Translation and Education at the Centre. We discussed all the amazing research that is happening in the Nutritional Psychiatry space and the significant role that food has on our mental and brain health.

To end the day we had a session with one of the Culinary Medicine chefs, who taught us how to make sourdough and sauerkraut using leftover bits in the kitchen.

We are already looking forward to the next event!
