About

Jonathan holds the posts of Head of Nutrition and Director of the Centre for Nutrition and Health at Oxford Brookes University. He was previously Programme Lead and Principal Lecturer in Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Hertfordshire and prior to this was Research Scientist at the University of Oxford.  He led a team of researchers in the Lancaster Farms site of the Three-Prison study, and subsequently ran the school nutrition study at the Robert Clack School. His additional current research interests include omega-3 intake and status differences in population groups, the potential impact of TV advertising on public health messages, and gender representation in the nutrition professions.

Dr Tammam is enthusiastic about the nutritional health of adolescents – a group with distinct nutritional needs and deficiencies, yet largely ignored by mainstream public health initiatives. He actively pursues opportunities to discuss the necessity for improved nutrition in this population group with media and policy makers, and has presented to MPs at an All-Party Parliamentary Group on Micronutrients and Health.

As an active researcher, Jonathan has published in prestigious journals such as British Medical Journal, British Journal of Nutrition, and Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics.  He has carried out research into micronutrient dietary reference values for the European Food Safety Authority and has presented his work at a national and international level.

He is a  member of the British Nutrition Society, British Dietetics Association, Association for Nutrition, and the Health & Care Professions Council.
